Fontaine's Oyster House Reviews

Food is fresh! Rustic and part of the restaurant is open air over a parking lot. Lobster roll is very good.

This place is such a vibe, I had a really good time here. We came for dinner service and we got oysters, blackened fish with tater tots and some cocktails. Our waiter was really friendly and gave us some good recommendations. We sat out on the patio and it i felt like it was in New Orleans. This place would be such a cute date idea or dinner with the girls because the drinks and food were great, the ambiance was going and just over all had a great time.

We had great seats on the patio. Our server was Salena who was very personable and professional. Really knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions to the menu. The selections were moderately priced with a wide variety. The food was very good with large portions

Love Fontaine's! There's a few paid lots in the area or you can trek a bit for some free street parking. I came by on a Tuesday after work with a friend for their oysters and it was amazing! Service was nice and attentive and filled up our waters without prompting. Our servers didn't seem cold even if it took a bit of time for my friend to arrive and we were looking at our menus. On Tuesdays they have $15 for a dozen of oysters which is GREAT for Atlanta. We got two dozen to share and a basked of fried oysters with tots. It was a hefty portion of food and we were stuffed! I liked the fried oysters but got 2 pieces that had a bit of oyster shell which was super unpleasant. Oysters definitely could be cleaned a bit better prior to battering and frying. Would I come back? Totally on Tuesdays but I would skip the fried oyster basket and do fish or shrimp instead

I'll be back! Every dish we had was good - from the fried pickles to the oysters. The drinks were good too. It's a very casual, down-home, relatable vibe in there. The servers are in plain clothes and always down to explain a dish or chat. The service was great too! Cant wait to go back!

The food was phenomenal and the bar service was impeccable. Aa was the aesthetics of the restaurant indoor and outdoor. Such a beautiful place. Also the prices are reasonable.

This was my first time trying fontaines and I've heard so many great things about it. The ambiance feels like you've stepped onto bourbon street in NOLA. We were seated outside on the patio which was fine since the weather was nice. The service itself was pretty good, our waitress was pretty attentive but not overbearing. For the food, I ordered the catfish basket and Rockefeller oysters. This was the first time trying oysters and they were pretty good! I'd definitely try them again! The fried catfish was hot and fresh, however could've used a little more seasoning in the batter. The fries were kind of soggy so I could've done without. I definitely will come back to try more items off the menu!

After getting out of church, we wanted something that had a nice menu selection that would please all of us. Furthermore, yesterday was the perfect day for a patio setting and all roads led to Fontaine's Oyster House. Parking was a breeze as they have Valet parking behind the building. Once I parked I walked around and headed on in. The ambiance was very casual and upbeat. The temperature of the lighting was dim to give a mild tone to the overall feel, however, the natural light from the front windows and patio gave ample lighting. We decided to sit on the back patio to enjoy the weather being that it wasn't too hot or too cold. Upon taking a look at the menu, I was excited at all the finger options. I decided to get the Grouper Fingers with Tater Tots and a Sweet Tea! Sweet Tea - Fresh, Perfectly Sweet, Refreshing, and absolutely a must try for my sweet tea lovers. Grouper Fingers - Golden Battered, Crunchy on the outside, moist and meaty on the inside. Well seasoned, great portion size, good quality of grouper. Tater Tots - One Word, AMAZING. Perfectly deep fried, not greasy, seasoned to perfection, and paired very well with the grouper. The tarter sauce tasted homemade and was very good. It paired perfectly with the batter of the Grouper as well as the Tater Tots! Oh yes. This was a great lunch. The service provided by Reece was amazing. He was all smiles and ensured our cups were filled and the table had everything we needed. Overall, Fontaine's Oyster House was a great experience and I will be back to try more items on the menu.
Fontaine's Oyster House
Nestled in the heart of Virginia-Highland at 1026 1/2 N Highland Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30306, Fontaine's Oyster House is more than just a neighborhood bar—it's a local institution for anyone craving fresh oysters, coastal comfort food, and laid-back vibes. The moment you walk in, the inviting energy and the scent of the ocean hit you all at once. If you’re searching for a seafood spot in Atlanta where the oysters are legit and the draft beers flow endlessly, you’ve probably found your next favorite hangout.
Best Place to Eat Oysters in Atlanta with Happy Hour That Actually Delivers
There’s no shortage of seafood restaurants in Atlanta, but Fontaine's plays in a league of its own—especially when it comes to oysters. Whether it’s raw, grilled, or Rockefeller, their oyster menu is always fresh and seasonal. Come in on Monday or Thursday for their famous $0.80 oyster deal, and you’ll witness a line forming before sunset. The bar gets packed, but in a good way—there’s a real sense of community here. Locals know the drill: grab a cold beer, order a dozen on the half shell, and settle in at the patio where strangers become friends over lemon wedges and cocktail sauce. If oysters aren’t your thing (yet), their blackened mahi tacos and shrimp po' boy offer bold flavors that capture the essence of Gulf Coast cuisine without being overcomplicated.
What Makes Fontaine’s Menu Stand Out from Other Seafood Joints
The menu at Fontaine’s doesn’t try too hard—and that’s exactly why it works. It’s a solid balance of bar classics and seafood-forward dishes that aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel. The seafood pasta, loaded with scallops, shrimp, and clams in a garlic cream sauce, is rich without being heavy. The crab cake sandwich is a fan-favorite, thanks to its golden sear and house-made remoulade. And yes, there are wings, burgers, and nachos for the landlubbers in your crew. But Fontaine’s really nails the Southern coastal vibe with dishes like crawfish etouffee and chargrilled oysters, the kind of stuff that makes you crave a second round. Even the side of coleslaw feels like it was made by someone’s grandma—not just scooped from a plastic container. It’s comfort food, done right, with attention to seasoning and portions that leave you satisfied, not stuffed.
A Neighborhood Staple with the Kind of Vibe You Don't Find Often
When talking about Fontaine's, it’s impossible not to mention the vibe. It’s part sports bar, part seafood tavern, and part backyard hangout—and somehow, it all works. The location in Virginia-Highland is perfect for a post-walk pit stop or a night out that doesn’t require reservations or a dress code. On weekends, you’ll find groups watching college football with pitchers of beer, while couples sneak into corner booths for shellfish and wine. The outdoor patio is pet-friendly and shaded, making it a prime spot year-round. Inside, the bar’s wood-paneled walls, old-school neon signs, and friendly bartenders keep things authentic without being kitschy. It’s the kind of place where regulars are known by name, and the bartender already knows your order by your third visit. Fontaine’s isn’t flashy, but it doesn’t need to be—it leans into its identity as a no-frills spot with fresh seafood, great people, and reliable service.
What Locals Say and Why Fontaine’s Keeps Getting Five Stars
Spend five minutes browsing reviews, and a pattern quickly emerges. Fontaine’s scores points not just for the oysters, but for its consistency. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, you’re getting the same quality each time. The staff is often praised for their friendliness and efficiency, even during rush hours. One Atlanta native wrote, “This is the kind of place you take out-of-town friends to show them that we’ve got our own seafood culture—even without the beach.” And they’re right. Fontaine’s has become that rare type of spot in a changing neighborhood: reliable, approachable, and built around community. It doesn’t rely on gimmicks or food trends—it relies on fresh ingredients, solid cooking, and a loyal customer base that keeps the energy alive.
For anyone visiting or living in Atlanta, Fontaine's Oyster House is worth more than a quick bite. It’s where coastal flavor meets Southern hospitality, and where the oysters are cold, the beer is colder, and the crowd is always just right.
This was our 2nd time visiting. Last Friday we came in, just googling restaurants to try in The Highlands. They did not disappoint! From the service, the food, and the ambience.
